A senior official from the oil giant Saudi Aramco has said that the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for what will be the largest gas plant in the KSA should be completed by the first quarter of 2011.

Reuters reported that Majid al-Mugla, vice-president of project management for Aramco said that the FEED for the Wasit gas development programme, being carried out by Canadian contractor SNC-Lavalin, is on track.

"The front-end engineering and design (FEED) would be completed between the third quarter of this year and the first quarter," Mugla is reported by Reuters as saying.

When completed Wasit will process 2.5 billion cubic feet per day of gas from Arabiyah and Hasbah offshore non-associated gas fields.

Both fields have been fast-tracked by Aramco to meet the boom in domestic demand for gas in Saudi Arabia.
