Aramco starts Al-Kharasaniya gas processing unit

A senior official from Saudi Aramco has announced the start-up of the first gas processing unit at Al-Kharasaniya field in the KSA.

The Saudi local newspaper Al-Watan reported that Majad Al-Makala, vice president of Saudi Aramco said that a second unit will start at the site in the next few months.

The production capacity of the first unit is 560 million cubic feet per day (cfpd) of gas and 280,000 barrels per day of ethane and natural gas liquids. The unit is also expected to process the gas from the offshore Karan field.

Aramco has said in a previous statement that the first phase of Karan field is due by the first half 2011, and will produce 450 million cfpd of gas. The capacity of the field when completing the project will be 1.8 billion cfpd.
