Sipchem starts up acetic acid plant in the KSA

Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) has announced that it has started the commissioning of its acetic acid plant in Al-Jubail.

The acetic acid plant is the second step to operate the acetyl project, after starting up the carbon monoxide, which is used as feedstock to produce the acetic acid.

The company said that the plant will use half the production to produce the vinyl acetate monomer, while it will market the remainder in the local and the international market.

The production capacity of the acetic acid plant is 460,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) and 50,000 mtpa of acetic anhydride.

The technology for the plant was provided by Eastman Chemical, USA.
