Poland have joined the ever-growing list of countries importing Qatar’s liquified natural gas (LNG) after signing a framework agreement with Qatargas Operating Company
The news gathering agency Reuters reported that the Polish gas monopoly PGNiG will be provided with approximately 1 million tonnes of LNG annually by Qatargas. The gas will be transported to the country via tankers.
Poland is another country looking to sources other than Russia for its gas supplies. Bulgaria leaders recently met the Emir of Qatar to discuss the possible construction of a LNG terminal in the country.
In January a price row between Russia and Ukraine severely disrupted gas supplies to nearby states who received their gas via a pipeline running through Ukraine.
Poland currently receive 76% of its gas from Russia.
