On the contrary, PIC pledged as an accountable corporation, from investing in its people to improving labour standards in the company’s supply chain. From improving access to healthcare to reducing its environmental footprint, PIC respects the interests of its stakeholders, shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, teaming partners, and the wider community – and the company actively seeks out opportunities both to improve the environment and to contribute to the well-being of the communities in which it does business.

PIC’s CSR Summary Report highlights the most important achievements of the company during the past three years including information about its social impact, initiatives on safety and diversity, and contributions to the communities where the company operates.

Health and safety endeavours

PIC has contributed in the field of health to support employees and create awareness amongst them, by conducting blood donation campaigns at the company head office and its factories. There has been a high turnout of employees’ participation who have contributed and shown a positive response to the importance of donating blood since the issue of blood donation is of great importance in helping patients in need.

This is important, especially to the rare blood group donors by saving the lives of many people, which also additionally benefits the health of donors. In addition, the initiative continues with its priority on several occasions – World Diabetes Day, World Heart Day, No Smoking Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, World Day for Safety and Health at Work, etc. – which includes medical examinations as well as health workshop for employees.

PIC initiated a strategic initiative in the year 2016-2017 by organising health awareness campaigns at commercial areas and conducted medical tests for local people to raise awareness about diabetes and blood pressure, along with the opportunity to consult doctors. It is worth mentioning here that PIC conducted a safety awareness campaign at different malls in Kuwait to promote safe driving skills. In cooperation with the New Mowasat Hospital, PIC hosted a healthy lifestyle workshop for employees to encourage healthy behavioural patterns, to plan a healthy diet, and to promote exercise awareness among employees. A breast cancer drive was organised with maximum participation from women and to gain knowledge for early detection of breast cancer.

The company’s social call to visit patients at hospitals, especially during Ramadan, resulted in instilling joy in patients by the visiting PIC employees. Reiterating its support to cancer patients at Bayt Abdullah Children’s Hospice, PIC engaged the kids in greening activities.

The company continued its support to NBK’s Children Specialty Hospital by alluring the kids with stories and pleasant talk, and appreciating their talents through gifts. The visits of PIC employees to the hospitals alleviated persons with special needs, disabled patients and elderly persons with care, and met their needs with gratification. Not forgetting its employees and their kids, PIC launched various programmes and activities during the summer vacation for children, which included swimming, karate, football, and many other sports activities at the Boubyan Club. The company also conducted various sports events regularly.

Campaigns on environmental side

The company has made great strides in its environmental contribution, such as the launch of its Green Project campaign to cultivate gardens at different schools in Kuwait. PIC’s ‘Go Green’ drive promotes green spaces around company buildings to reduce emissions and to improve air quality by preserving the working atmosphere. PIC is the first company in the oil sector to launch this kind of an initiative.

The company initiated many beach cleaning campaigns and encouraged the participation of local communities to carry out health and environmental initiatives and to promote environmental awareness.

As part of the company’s implementation of initiatives to protect the environment and community care, and the awareness taken by the company for the benefit of employees and the application of sustainability reports, the company’s head office has won the LEED Certificate from the US Green Building Council, which specialises in the development and energy savings of environmentally friendly green buildings. No other existing building in Kuwait has received such a certificate.

PIC is striving to enhance the environmental awareness of its employees, where they will be holding regular awareness sessions such as awareness of Kuwait’s new environmental protection law, knowledge of the importance of renewable energy and climate change, celebration of World Environment Day and distribution of water-dependent plants in irrigation, as well as conducting recycling competition for used materials rather than disposal to create the best products from the used materials.
