Interview with Benoît Labre, managing director, Flexitallic LLC.

Please elaborate on Flexitallic’s line and scope of business activities within the oil and gas industry.

Flexitallic is the global leader in static sealing solutions, manufacturing and supplying a comprehensive and innovative range of gaskets and gasket materials, which are successfully applied in a range of industries, including the upstream and downstream segments. Flexitallic established its operations in the UAE in 2009 when it opened its first facility in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. It has led to the company becoming a key sealing provider in the region and commonly regarded as the industry’s market leader since becoming the first gasket manufacturer in the Middle East to achieve ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditations in July 2010, and have since maintained the certifications. To meet increasing demand, Flexitallic LLC has completed a US$4 million investment in a new multi-purpose facility, which will support its ambitious growth plans in the Middle East. Remaining in Ras Al Khaimah, the new headquarters, has been built on a 10,000 square metre plot of land, increasing capacity, while providing additional space to accommodate further facilities as required.

Which country/ies in the Middle East are you most active in and how do you wish to expand your reach in the region?

Flexitallic supplies all the countries in the Middle East. Flexitallic is keen to bolster its presence in the Middle East by expanding its team of experienced regional sales engineers. This has begun with appointments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, the Northern Emirates and in Oman, and will be followed by Qatar and Kuwait in the near future.

Give us an idea of your clientele and your scope of work with them. Also mention some of the oil and gas projects that you have been involved in the past and the current projects that you may be working on.

Flexitallic works with leading members of the oil and gas industry, including GASCO, Total, Shell Majnoon, BP, Gazprom, Chevron and Qatar Petroleum, to name a few. Projects we have supported in the oil and gas sector range from the Zakum Oil Lines replacement project (Phase 1) and the In Salah Gas Southern Fields development project, both in the UAE, the second phase of the West Qurna field in Iraq and the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project in Oman. Among the recent contracts awarded to Flexitallic are the ADMA-OPCO project and the Nasr Phase II Full Field Development.

What are the main products / services that you are presently promoting and selling in the market?

Flexitallic is currently promoting a range of its market-driven sealing innovations. Firstly, a new gasket filler material, which will tackle the problem of flange face corrosion on bolted joints in seawater and hydrocarbon applications, is the centrepiece of Flexitallic’s present portfolio. Flexitallic is also publicising a new premium compressed sheet gasket material, which is based on a blend of organic and glass fibres, bound with a high quality rubber binder. A high performance gasket material, the glass-based innovation is suitable for a range of demanding applications involving, among others, water, oils, fuels and hydrocarbons. These new products are being marketed alongside our existing portfolio that includes Change™, an important development in gasket technology since the invention of the spiral-wound gasket by Flexitallic more than 100 years ago.
