41. Abdullah Al Garawi, CEO, Advanced Petrochemicals
Besides his primary occupation as president and CEO of Advanced Petrochemicals, Abdullah Al Garawi also presides over the board as the company’s vice chairman and director. During his time at Advanced, Al Garawi has led the firm into key markets in Asia, including in S. Korea where it recently set up a joint venture plant capable of producing over 600,000 metric tonnes of propylene per year (MTPA). Advanced owns 30% of the JV, which started operations earlier this year, through its foreign investment arm Advanced Global, while the remaining, majority stake is controlled by SK Gas of South Korea. Prior to taking the top position at the company in October 2010, Al Garawi served as deputy director of manufacturing at Sabic’s Jubail operations. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals.
