21. John Frijns, Vice President, Middle East, BASF
BASF’s top man in the Middle East, John Frijns, retains his position in this year’s Power List. Frijns possess a wealth of international experience and plays a vital role in driving the company’s growth in the region. He was named head of emerging markets in the Middle East and Egypt, based in Dubai on July 1, 2015 with BASF establishing the new position to better support the company’s growing business in the region.
Frijns started his professional career as sales correspondent for the overseas areas at Ciba-Geigy in the Netherlands. After different positions in marketing and sales with increasing responsibilities in different segments and countries, he joined BASF through the acquisition of Ciba in 2009. For the last six years, Frijns has headed the regional business unit plastic additives in Europe located in Basel, Switzerland.
BASF’s presence in the UAE spans over three decades and today enjoys high level recognition from commercial enterprise and public entities for its expertise and advanced products backed by ongoing research and development. BASF sells a range of products in the Middle East, with an emphasis on industrial chemicals, petrochemicals, gas purification, oilfield chemicals, sea water desalination, packaging, engineering plastics, plastics additives, paints, coatings & inks and construction sector products.
