The Middle East’s defining resources of oil and gas are not just finite, but subject to the same market fundamentals of supply and demand as other commodities.
Consequently, whilst these products may have contributed billions of dollars to each country’s GDP, the need to adapt and diversify away from a sole emphasis on upstream projects is one that has taken on greater emphasis in recent times.
Be it Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Qatar, the number of downstream projects earmarked for design, planning, or close to being tendered is huge. We have highlighted the top 22 downstream projects which when valued together is more than $100 billion.
In the following list, Refining and Petrochemicals Middle East features 22 of the region’s largest downstream projects currently planned or underway. Whilst there may be appear to be some overlap, by their nature such schemes are vast and numerous expansions have been listed independently to avoid confusion and highlight the scope and sheer scale of these projects.
